Job Summary Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon, Director of Orthopedic Research
Denver Health is recruiting for an Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon with a leadership role of Director of Orthopedic Research. Director of Research: Responsible for leading and coordinating research efforts within the department. Coordinates and leads a team of research fellows. This role is ideal for a candidate who excels in research and leadership with a particular emphasis on securing research grants, navigating IRB processes, and advancing orthopedic knowledge, and publications. Candidate will oversee data management and statistical analysis, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of research findings.

Clinically orthopedic surgeons at Denver Health are responsible for examining, diagnosing, and treating diseases and traumatic injuries to the musculoskeletal system. Treats patients with injuries, disorders, or malformations and performs required surgery. Conducts and supervises direct patient care, including some non-surgical treatment options. Candidate must be able to perform complex orthopedic surgeries, with a focus on trauma and critical care cases in a high acuity setting and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient management and optimal outcomes.
The hired surgeon will work within a team of 5 trauma fellowship trained Orthopedic surgeons. The role of Chief of the Orthopedic Trauma division is an option should a qualified applicant meet the requirement (past leadership experience, academic/research track record, national reputation).
Educational responsibilities: Teach and mentor medical students, residents, and fellows in orthopedic surgery, emphasizing both clinical skills and academic knowledge. Develop and deliver lectures, seminars, and workshops on orthopedic surgery and related topics. Participate in curriculum development and academic program evaluation.

Analyze patient's medical history, medication allergies, physical condition, and examination results to verify operation's necessity and to determine best procedure. (10%)
Conduct research to develop and test surgical techniques that can improve operating procedures and outcomes related to musculoskeletal injuries and diseases. (10%)
Diagnose bodily disorders and orthopedic conditions, and provide treatments, such as medicines and surgeries, in clinics, hospital wards, or operating rooms. (10%)
Diagnose or treat disorders of the musculoskeletal system. (10%)
Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents, and other medical staff. (10%)
Examine instruments, equipment, and operating room to ensure sterility. (5%)
Examine patient to obtain information on medical condition and surgical risk. (5%)
Follow established surgical techniques during the operation. (5%)
Manage surgery services, including planning, scheduling and coordination, determination of procedures, or procurement of supplies and equipment. (5%)
Operate on patient's musculoskeletal system to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patient's functions. (5%)
Order and interpret the results of laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging procedures. (5%)
Prepare case histories. (5%)
Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, or preparation and treatment of the patient's operative area. (5%)
Provide consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons. (5%)
Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary. (5%)
Education:
Doctorate Degree Required
Licenses:
MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques.
Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
