This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Learn more The purpose of the VA Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders (SCI/D) System of Care is to honor America's Veterans and Active Duty service members with SCI/D by providing exceptional, comprehensive, and lifelong care that improves their health, well-being, function, and quality of life. The SCI/D System of Care includes health care services designed to provide resources and care to optimize physical and mental health, educational and vocational opportunities, community reintegration, and resumption of social roles; SCI/D interdisciplinary teams of experts from many disciplines (including medicine; nursing; occupational, physical and recreation therapies; rehabilitation psychology; social work; nutrition; pharmacy) work with the Veteran to achieve and maintain independence and a good quality of life. Care focuses on self-management and healthy behaviors, which are important for Veterans with SCI/D to prevent additional problems, maintain function, and optimize health and well-being. The incumbent serves as the Senior Social Worker for the Spinal Cord inpatient acute care unit and provides complex, multiple services to individuals and families with a variety of social, emotional and health related problems. The incumbent serves as the Senior Social Worker for the Spinal Cord outpatient program consisting of a team of experts who utilize a rehabilitation model of healthcare with a primary care focus. The incumbent serves as the Senior Social Worker for the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) outpatient clinic. The ALS System of Care ensures timely access to services. The interdisciplinary care for Veterans with ALS is coordinated through ALS care teams, with appointments made in a timely manner to meet VA standards for all ALS-related and general clinical problems.
