Orlando VA Healthcare is a Level 1B complexity system that covers 118,000+ veterans in East Central Florida. As Recreational Therapist Assistant, you are part of the Rehabilitation section of the Anesthesia and Physical Medicine Service composed of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Recreational Therapy, and Kinesiotherapy. You will be assigned to one of the numerous clinics throughout the Orlando VA Healthcare System. The Recreational Therapist Assistant (RTA) will be assigned to a patient care program and/or location within the Rehabilitation Section. He/she will be responsible for assisting the Recreation and Creative Arts Therapist in the developing, organizing, administering, assessing, and documenting therapeutic treatment interventions and responses to Recreational Therapy programs. Under the plan of care and guidance of a Recreational or Creative Arts therapist, the Recreational Therapy Assistant may be assisting with care in the CLC, DOM, Whole Health, and Inpatient/Outpatient Mental Health Programs. The incumbent is responsible for working/coordinating with various community agencies such as Veteran's Service Organizations, to obtain services, donations, and other beneficial resources. Patient populations include those with psychiatric, substance abuse, neurological, orthopedic, cognitive, and medical/surgical conditions. The primary location of this position of will be determined by the primary setting that care is delivered but may be on the Lake Nona or Lake Baldwin Campus, although the incumbent may be required to cover other areas within the Orlando VA Healthcare system catchment area.
